Sura 93

Sura Dhuha was revealed at Mecca. It is said that the recitation of this Sura is a safeguard against poverty and loneliness and that is brings peace, honour and prosperity

Morning Hours (Ad-Duha)

In the name of Allah, Gracious, Merciful.

1By the glorious morning light.

2And by the night when it is still.

3The guardian Lord has not forsaken you, nor is He displeased.

4And verily, the hereafter will be better for you than the present.

5And soon will your Lord give you that wherewith you shall be well pleased.

6Did He not find you an orphan and give you shelter?1

7And He found you wandering and He gave you guidance.

8And He found you in need and made you independent.

9Therefore treat not the orphan with harshness.2

10And repulse not the petitioner;

11But the bounty of your Lord rehearse and proclaim!3

1. Our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was an orphan, he lost his father even before he was born, his mother died when he was six years old and his grandfather died two years later, he was raised by his uncle Abu Talib. It is against this background that this conversation takes place. Allah had shown him mercy and made him a prophet to his own people.

 2. Because of the grace of Allah upon him, he is to take note and not treat orphans with harshness.

3. It is like the Golden Rule in reverse. Do unto others as God has done for you. And of course whatever is done for anyone must be seen as it is unto the Lord.
